Ice House Studio Gallery

My studio gallery is located in a small village that wraps around Kempenfelt Bay, on the west side of Lake Simcoe. It's just one hour north of Toronto, and only a few minues off Hwy 11,  making it an easy destination.

The "ICE HOUSE" name for the studio came from one of it's original uses, which was to store ice that was harvested from nearby Lake Simcoe. Ice that was hauled to the front door, was then placed on a ramp, for it to be slid into the lower level, where it would be stored in sawdust to keep it frozen. From here, it would be taken by train or other transport and sent all over North America!  These type of buildings in this area are often called a Coach House, referring to housing a horse and carriage. I like to have some reference to the history of the place. Now, it's my studio.

Last summer, on a very hot day, Doug Downey (the Attorney General of Ontario), dropped by to wish me well on this new venture, and to buy a painting. Thanks very much Doug!

The Ice House Studio Gallery is open spring to fall in the coach house, but I live right next door, so anyone wishing to stop by to see my work, please just call ahead. I work at home, and am here most of the time. Can't gaurantee it'll be that way post-covid!

The ICE HOUSE STUDIO GALLERY is located at 2015 Ridge Rd. W., in Shanty Bay. E-mail me first before coming at, at [email protected] to arrange a date/time.
